As a teenager in urban sprawl New Jersey, the environmental world was an afterthought to the typical careers and lifestyle of the area — doctors and lawyers and business executives in boxes made of ticky-tacky…
I dove into the world of environmental consciousness during a class dedicated to independent student projects focused on social justice. During that class I attended my first climate conference and fell into the rabbit hole of environmental advocacy and the obsessive lifestyle that sustainability, reduction, recycling, etc. can provoke. I eventually graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Engineering with the rigor to go affect positive change in the world and my community.
Disappointed by the protection of the “responsible party’s” pockets and the lack of creativity in my career path, I began seeking a new approach to continue my goals to bring humanity and the environment to a more perfect harmony. During this transition period I taught on a private basis in Annapolis, Maryland focusing largely on the math and science while taking classes at the local community college in education, entrepreneurship, oceanography, and helping operate the greenhouse and seed collection facilities.
I ultimately felt that design was the best way for me to express my interests in sustainability, to enrich my community, and affect the positive change. I am currently enrolled as a Master’s of Architecture student at the University of Oregon’s College of Design in Eugene, Oregon.
